Before we get into any fun and interesting things about South africa, I thought it would be a good idea for me to introduce myself, and just mention What? I’m doing and Why? I’m on this exciting journey.
So, who am I?
My name is Lexton. Born and raised in Chinatown, New York City, I grew up playing soccer on the cement cages in chinatown, played for teams throughout the city and Long Island. I attended college at Rutgers University and just graduated from Long Island University in Brooklyn this May. So yes, fresh out of college at the age of 23, exploring life, and sharing my experiences. No need to thank me for keeping this part brief, and sparing those of you who really don’t care. But for those of you who do want to know more, you can click here for a run down of my current playing bio, and links to full profiles.
What am I doing in South Africa?
Like I said, I just graduated from LIU and after a short five years of college I finally find myself forced into the real world, with no cushioned excuses from school priorities. If you are still in school cherish it, and if your done (but not for long!) like me, you know what I mean. Anyway, I figure I take the fall off from soccer and try my hands at traveling and undertaking some worldly experiences before I come back to playing and starting my career.
The oppurtunity to go to South africa came from my girl friend, who studies at LIU’s Global College. When she decided to spend her last traveling semester to South Africa, I knew, with my college obligations now freed, I needed to be involved. So, together we made arrangements for me to work along side her as she started her senior year. We now do volunteer work at St. Mary’s Hospital feeding and conducting activities with burned victims in the children’s ward. We also do volunteer work for the Siyanakekela “We Care” organization, feeding and playing soccer with AIDS orphans. Besides all the volunteer work, I took my labtop along to documuent my travels, but to also develope and launch the couple websites I started on just a couple months ago. So, volunteering, traveling mixed with alot of internet things, is basically what I’m doing.
“Volunteering, exploring, experiencing is what im doing here in South Africa. Passing the Word Around is what I’m spreading.”
You can already imagine how the excitement of World Cup 2010 is just boiling within me, not to mention living two blocks from the New King SenzangaKhona Stadium in Durban. That being said, come follow me on this interesting journey through South Africa and learn about the finer things I’ve experienced.
Yours Turely,
Spirrs Guy
