So, these are the Big Five animals (Well, insects to be exact) I found in my room while staying at the Hluhluwe Guest House. Thanks goodness they provide nets above the beds. Unbelievable, the size, the feirceness and the aggression of these vicious pests. These agile creature can move stealthfully and attack swiftly. Can’t even tell you how many times I have encountered these things, let alone attackedby them. Not the Big 5 we’re all looking for, so arm yourself. Deet is your friend in this country.

View Photo Album

So, this is the Guest house we stayed at on our visit to St. Lucia. It was quite a lovely place as you can see. It was close enough to all that we came to St. Lucias for, and that was the ANIMALS. If you have some time during your stay in South Africa be sure to plan a trip to see some animals. Don’t take it from me, ask anyone, “What is the one thing you need to do in South Africa?” Most will tell you, “See some animals.” You will immediately see this second you land, “The Big Five.’ I mean it is everywhere and a staple of tourism. It’s almost like, if you want something that speaks South Africa and Africa in general, it will most likely having something and everything to do with the “Big 5.”

Anyway, in our guest to see the BIG FIVE we took this little trip to St. Lucia. Our game plan: Game Park. Oh and we through in a boat ride to see Hippos and Crocs, along with a “cultural tour” of a Zulu Village just for good measure. More on those a little later.

HLUHLUWE GUEST HOUSE:

Rating: ★★★★½
Double Thumbs UP. I enjoyed my stay there. Beautiful rooms, dining and recreation areas. Equipped with a nice pool and pool side pool table, with comfortable huts and chairs, the place offered a lot of outdoor areas for people to sit, relax and enjoy a few drinks. Like many B&B’s and Guest Houses in SA, their lounge includes a small self-help bar, with a beverage log to record your drinks. This is located amongst the large collection of mounted game heads in a pallor with plenty of reading materials on game and animals. Overall, Good Stuff. Food was personally prepared and owners were the nicest ladies. So, if you ever end up there, know you’ll be taken care of.

Things to be careful for: Make sure you arm yourself with bug repellant. The mosquitoes are quite large and quite nasty. Click here for a picture of the ‘BIG 5′ I caught in my room.
